(GEOGRAPHY)
A site my children have enjoyed using that has interactive maps for teaching and for
"testing" what they know is http://www.yourchildlearns.com/owlmouse.htm.
Another good interactive site is http://www.lizardpoint.com/fun/geoquiz/.
A good geography text we have used for older students is BJU Geography.
Other curriculum that we have found helpful are Country Facts: World Geography
- Eastern Hemisphere by David Kohl, published by Logos School and
ABeka Geography Studies & Projects - Western Hemisphere.
It's interesting to study old maps and compare the names of countries with
their most recent names on newer maps. Encourage your children to use
state maps when you travel. Teach your children to use "keys" on maps
and to use an Atlas! Map Quest at http://www.mapquest.com/ is helpful
for getting directions if you are planning a trip. The route they give isn't always
the best one; verify the directions with someone familiar with the area if possible.
Our son has enjoyed going to Google Earth at http://earth.google.com/ and
"visiting" sites of interest around the world (note: an internet connection speed
of at least 56kps is necessary to use Google Earth).
A geography game we have enjoyed, that we purchased used, is the 1987 edition of
"Global Pursuit" by National Geographic; it's a fun, educational board game.
