Ambleside Online http://www.amblesideonline.org/ Classical Education based on
Charlotte Mason's methods with recommended book lists for years 1-11. There is
information about composers and artists to study each term. Links to poetry, nature
study, folksong & hymns, Shakespeare and Plutarch selections are also available.
An Ambleside Online Conference was held July 30, 2005, in Dallas. It was outstanding!

"Narration Beats Tests" is an encouraging article written in 1993 by Karen Andreola. See

"The mother who takes pains to endow her children with good habits secures for herself
smooth and easy days; while she who lets their habits take care of themselves has a weary
life of endless friction with the children ... The mother devotes herself to the formation of
one habit at a time." --Charlotte Mason

can do everything in the book; the scheduling lists were required by the publisher.)

"For the sole true end of education is simply this: to teach men how to learn for themselves;
and whatever instruction fails to do this is effort spent in vain."--Dorothy Sayers

Robinson Curriculum (22 self-teaching CD's) http://www.robinsoncurriculum.com
(22 self-teaching CD's for $195) Dr. Arthur Robinson is a scientist and father of 6 children.
Read about the sudden death of his wife in 1998 and how he managed to continue to
homeschool his children. Emphasis is on reading good books, writing, and math. I have read
that he wanted his children to learn to think and didn't give them a computer until after
completing a course in Calculus at about age 16; he also stressed a diet without sugar.

"Why Shakespeare For Christian Students?" is an interesting article that can be found
at http://www.berith.org/hsres/shak/shak01.html. Two quotes that caught my attention
from this article read, "The King James translation of the Bible is incomparably the most
beautiful piece of literature in the English language. Shakespeare comes second."
and "If modern, English-speaking Christians -- whose worldviews now suffer from
the influence of TV and movies that are at best non-Christian and not infrequently
outright anti-Christian -- have a serious interest in learning to think like Christians,
Shakespeare is a nearly indispensable source." Our family will choose carefully
which Shakespeare plays to study and at what age, but "Taming of the Shrew"
is already a favorite of ours because our older daughter played Bianca in college,
and we saw it performed live.
